Staten Island Zoo Clove Road Entrance Renovation

  • Location: Staten Island, New York
  • Site Size: 52,155 SF
  • Client:  NYC Parks
  • Architect: nARCHITECTS
  • Market Sector: Recreation

The Staten Island Zoo is located in West New Brighton, a neighborhood of Staten Island situated along the central North Shore. Located on NYC Parks land, the Zoo is also known as Barrett Park. It is 8 acres in land area and is surrounded mainly by residential development of one and twofamily detached houses in R2, R3-1, and R3x zoning districts. The scope area is along the Clove Road edge of the Zoo, which operates as it’s main visitor entrance. Across Clove Road is the Zoo’s parking lot, which is owned and maintained by NYC Parks. The project scope includes a new entry gate / ticketing booth, interpretive exhibits in the landscape and upgraded exterior paths throughout the entry and exhibit areas to meet ADA requirements. The ‘building’ is a small 200SF guest services structure, which will likely grow with an associated canopy and gate.
